I often get asked if Hypnotherapy actually works. My answer is always of course it works! We experience hypnosis or a trance-like state more often than you would realize!
Driving: Have you ever arrived at your destination with little to no memory of the ride there? This is a common example of highway hypnosis, when you are on autopilot because you are so focused on the road ahead that you are not really aware of your surroundings.
Reading or watching television: When you are so into a book or movie where you enter a trance like state, where you are absorbed into the story and the characters. You are feeling the emotions and so engrossed in it that you are tuning out what is going on around you. How often have you watched an incredible movie in the theatre and when it was over you needed a minute to regain your bearings before you exited the theatre. Your mind was so relaxed and so engrossed in the story, it wasn't paying attention to the entire theatre full of people.
Daydreaming: Ever find yourself staring off into the distance thinking about different scenarios in your mind? This is actually a form of self-hypnosis where you are allowing your imagination to take over.
These are just a few examples of every day trance where you mind naturally enters a state of focused attention and suggestibility. How cool is that?
